Necklaces
I am not a jeweler, but I have always made jewelry.
20 years ago, I made the first necklace in this series, using objects I had collected.
Since then, I have made about 15 more. I wear them all, all the time.
I also take a photo of each necklace, have it printed on fabric, and make a “quilt”- a 2” x 4” sewn, printed, and embroidered wall hanging that gets hung alongside each necklace.
They range from being collections of things I like, to specific statements or commentaries. I saved all my negative Covid tests, and made a necklace of that. When Argentina discontinued the use of coins and bills denominated less than 100 pesos, I made a necklace of the virtually worthless cash I had.
When I was 16 years old, I made a necklace out of spark plugs I had found in the street, and wore it to the first day of 12th grade.
That one was lost, but I am making a new one..
